In March 2012, Movin’ On Up, the dance careers event with a twist returns for its third year! This exciting event will be held at Stratford-upon-Avon College and is a fantastic opportunity for young people who want to work in dance.
To help us create a vibrant, appropriate and beneficial programme we would like your views on what you would like to see at Movin’ On Up 2012.

Ever wanted to experience dance through photography, well now you can with ‘Still Dancing: A photography exhibition exploring dance’ By Richard Battye!
Shot on location in Birmingham and in Richard Battye’s studio the photos capture the form and shape of the human body as created by the act of dancing!
It is taking place at The Old Joint Stock in Birmingham until the 3rd February 2012!

Breakin’ Convention is the highly acclaimed international hip-hop dance theatre festival that is taking place at the Birmingham Hippodrome in 2012.
Breakin’ Convention are looking for companies who desire to break the conventions of Hip Hop Dance Theatre.They are looking for talented crews with something to say, who are using hip-hop and funk styles in an exciting way and who are able to entertain an audience of up to 1,800 people on the Birmingham Hippodrome main stage!

U.Dance Raw Energy is taking place on Sunday 19th February 2012 at the DanceXchange’s studio theatre The Patrick Centre. It will be celebrating youth dance from across the West Midlands including brilliant performances by Nova Dance Company and Collision Dance Company both from the sub-region. We congratulate them for making it through the application process as well as the many other groups involved!
It will encompass many different dance styles and be an exciting evening. Also it will serve as a platform for those wanting to perform at U.Dance 2012 which is taking place between the 13th-16th July at the Southbank Centre, London.
Applications for groups have now closed but there are tickets available from Monday 6th February 2012 for what’s set to be an amazing celebration!

The Big Dance schools 2012 pledge is back and you and your school could be involved. Dance teachers and young people in schools across the country can be involved in a world record attempt on the 18th May 2012.
It will involve your school learning online choreography by Wayne McGregor that will be available from the Big Dance website in January. Then at 13:00pm on 18th May schools around the country will go to their playgrounds, school halls and playing fields etc to perform the choreography and join the simultaneous performance happening around the country. Also this opportunity will involve your school undertaking an additional 20 minutes a day during Big Dance week (7-15th July).
